NZ GREENSTONE TOKI 8cm

A large New Zealand Greenstone Toki 1.5 cm wide at the top and 2 cm wide at the end of the 7 cm long, wedge-shaped stone that is bound with black waxed cord. It comes packed in a small kete (see photo). Genuine New Zealand Pounamu (Greenstone), sourced and hand carved in Aotearoa (New Zealand). Pounamu is of great cultural significance for Maori and is believed to enhance mana (prestige) of its possesor. When received as a gift Pounamu is said to gain value as a special treasure. The "Toki" is a symbol of courage and strength in time of adversity. The toki (adze)was a chizel tool used by the Maori people of Aotearoa to carve everthing from their great wakas (canoes) to the intricate designs found in their marae (meeting house)
